Custom Cabinets, Shelves, Cases and Other Wooden Creations
Welcome to my site of custom-built wood creations. I will build items like this for you. This diverse collection includes cases, shelves, cabinets, stands, frames, doors and even beds. And they are all being used. None of these creations has been posed in a designer home; they are either shown installed or before being handed over to a family member. Some of those in use are dusty and a few even have cobwebs -- and you'll see how they look in a home with down-to-earth people responding to their own practical needs.

Glass Cabinet over Stove Hood
There's always the question of what interesting thing to do with the space over a stove hood. Most cabinets are dull, part of a set that anonymizes the cabinet. We set out to make a unique design incorporating the etched glass found at a yard sale.
The basic box and door are made from available pine, new and old.
The door is carefully fitted in the box so it would open easily for someone standing on tiptoes.
The wood box and door. I personally favor the wood alone, but Stevie prefers paint.
Etched glass is beautiful.
Shelves are installed as well as a set of rods for holding heavy blue glasses, and a cutout for power.
The door is hinged and fitted in place.
The etched glass panel is added. It is locked in the back and can be removed.
The first color selection was a colonial green we had used often.
The green looked too plain so it was redone in a black and white that contrasted beautifully with the oak glass frame. (The stained ceiling and old track lights have since been removed.)
The cabinet is lit from the inside, with the lights operated from a switch above the stove.
Knob and latch were added later. The latch slips easily up and automatically falls down when the door is closed.
The knob is placed low because the cabinet is high. Rather than our usual Dutch white ceramic knob, we used a wooden knob painted black.
