Kalvos and Damian / Web Project 1997-98

Back to WebProject 1997

A dozen composers will be joining the WebProject mentoring sessions for 1997-98. From locations in New York, Toronto, San Francisco, Cologne, Miami, Amsterdam, and elsewhere, the composers will be listening to student compositions, offering suggestions and critiques, sharing their own music, and talking about their musical lives.

Students and teachers will be meeting with Maggi Payne and Carl Stone, both composers of acoustic, electroacoustic, and electronic music. In Toronto, composer/performer/writer Gary Barwin will join Elma Miller -- composer and score engraver -- and composer of subtle acoustic music Linda Catlin Smith.

Traveling down the eastern U.S. on the Internet, students will gain insights from the uniquely tuned improvisations of Pauline Oliveros, and a knot of New York composers will join in: Eve Beglarian and her duo Twisted Tutu; the computer-inspired and -assisted music of Dr. Nerve's leader Nick Didkovsky; a lover of and composer for the human voice -- our opera man! -- Daron Hagen; and creator of acoustic madness, Keith Moore (that's Moore, not Moon!). From there, the net brings us to Florida and crazed pianist and composer Drew Krause.

Across the Atlantic, two composers will provide guidance, insight, and a touch of the unusual: from Amsterdam, composer Calliope Tsoupaki will dominate the keyboard, and students will take the intense views of Maria de Alvear from Cologne.

WebProject on-line mentoring via IRC and WWW:
