Heard on radio that violinuist Stern jsut died
aet. 81, and an interview with him three years
back: He stressed communication, first with
himself to he could connect the music with his
"sentient brain", and then with others, anyone who
could listen to his playing.

Matt Field wrote here about continuing his music
as part of stitching together "civilization" and
we all probably agree. But music must not be used
to just cut a new edge, or epater la bourgoisie,
or it loses social connectivity. The sad thing is
that country music touches the soul of millions,
while non-pop as done here is a micro percentage.
Could it be that music is not a social function,
but a personal one after all? For now; later.

I wasn't at the World Trade Center.
I was in Silver Spring, Maryland. At 10 am on Tuesday 11 September 2001 there was suddenly a jam of traffic leaving town. A bit later I was up on the 10th floor and looking south saw billowing smoke for about 7 hours. The news reports that the building was insulated with horsehair, which burned like charcoal. An eyewitness claimed the plane hit the ground just short of the Pentagon and exploded up into it. By the time I got through to the Red Cross they were only accepting O-negative blood.
What can you do?
Unlike most of the people I've heard from, I count this as increasing the importance of me writing exactly the music I've been writing all along. Call me bizarre. Call me conceited. Call me out of touch. But I hope to contribute to civilization, and that's about all I can do against uncivilization.
